Countries should utilize diplomatic isolation by reducing or limiting their formal diplomatic engagements with the Afghan government and imposing visa restrictions on officials directly responsible for oppressive policies. They should also raise global awareness to make it politically costly for the Afghan government to ignore women’s inherent rights.

Israelis must use their collective power to create the conditions that produce mutual political, economic, and security gains with the Palestinians, which is the only way to coexist peacefully. Israelis must ask what the alternative to peaceful coexistence is. Has anyone come up with a viable and mutually acceptable alternative whereby both can live in peace, short of a two-state solution?
I recently spoke with author and political thinker Mike Bedenbaugh to discuss the current state of American politics. Mike commented on the coalition of support around Donald Trump, and what that means for the United States today:
“We have always had an authoritarian element in our society, and that authoritarian element has always been scattered throughout society, but for some reason it has been able to coagulate around the current leadership… it`s really not about Donald Trump anymore. He`s just merely an avatar for a shadow that has now strengthened in the nation that we have to figure out how to contain.”

France is treating thousands of children in Mayotte as second-class citizens, despite the island being a French department. A new Human Rights Watch report shows that one year after the 2024 cyclone, Mayotte’s children, especially those in “bangas” settlements and from migrant families, still face systemic barriers to schooling. Municipalities impose unlawful enrollment requirements, while overcrowded schools lack safe water, sanitation, and even basic meals. This is happening in the poorest department of France, where over 75% of the population lives below the poverty line. Instead of addressing long-standing structural failures, authorities have allowed them to deepen. A French passport should not determine who the child is, that matters, and who does not. Paris must ensure equal access to education and end the two-tier system that discriminates against Mayotte’s children.

About 1,400 people were killed during the 2024 student-led protests in Bangladesh, an extraordinary death toll that reveals the scale of state violence used against predominantly young, unarmed demonstrators.
