Ambassador Rishchynski joined the Canadian Foreign Service in 1982, after a career in the private sector in Africa and Latin America. He has served at the Canadian Consulates General in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, Brazil (1983-1986), the Canadian Embassy in Amman, Jordan (1986-1989), the Canadian Consulate in Melbourne, Australia (1992-1993), the Canadian Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia (1993-1996), and the Canadian Consulate General in Chicago, Illinois, USA (1997-1999). In 1999, he was appointed Canadian Ambassador to Colombia, serving for three years in Bogota, before returning to Canada. From 2003 to 2005, he served as Vice-President for the Americas at the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) in Canada. From August 2005 to August 2007, he served as Canadian Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil. His most recent assignment was as Canadian Ambassador to the United Mexican States, from 2007 to 2011.
